Our Story

Pilgrim Church was founded in January 1994 in Spokane, Washington, by a small group of about fifty believers. By God's blessing, it grew quickly. Today it is one of the largest immigrant churches in the United States, with up to a thousand people attending.

Most of our congregation came from countries of the former Soviet Union, and many local English-speaking neighbors worship with us too. For many immigrants, Pilgrim has become a second home, and for some, their first.

Current Building

From 1994 to 1998, we rented space from Spokane's Central Baptist Church. As the church grew, that building could no longer hold everyone. The whole church fasted and prayed around the clock for a home of our own, and God answered with a miracle: the beautiful former First Baptist Church building downtown, given to us almost free of charge.

Together we renovated the entire building. On March 1, 1998, Pilgrim Church moved into its new home in the heart of Spokane.

Services Language

Services are held mainly in Russian, with Ukrainian and English also spoken. Sunday services are interpreted live into English by professional interpreters, and you can listen through headphones.

What We Believe

We are a Baptist church that confesses the faith based solely on the Holy Scriptures, the Old and New Testaments.

Our founding members came from three different Baptist unions of the former Soviet Union. In the USSR, these groups were divided over how to relate to the Soviet government. At Pilgrim, those divisions are behind us. We are not "Separated," "Registered," or "Autonomous" Baptists. We are one church, united in one faith.

Pilgrim is a member of the Mennonite Brethren Conference of churches. We also keep warm, brotherly ties with Slavic churches across the U.S. and around the world.

Our Guiding Principles

  • Equality and unity. All members are equal, no matter which Baptist union they came from.

  • No politics. The church stays out of political and government affairs.

  • No division. There is no room for church politics, plotting, or splits.

  • Openness. All church work is done openly, with everyone treated as equals and no one ruling over others.

  • Love. All our relationships are built on sincere Christian love for one another.

  • Simplicity and sincerity. This is the heart of who we are.

Ministries and Community Services

Our main focus is missionary work and sharing the Gospel. Alongside our regular services, we offer free help to immigrant families and our community:

  • Pastoral counseling for married and single people of all ages, including family conflicts, spiritual struggles, and personal hardships

  • Practical help with paperwork and documents, plus a notary public on site

  • English classes and citizenship test preparation

  • Music lessons for all ages

  • Children's programs, including arts and crafts and Russian language classes

  • Community events, including lectures, concerts, and gatherings, often with guests from abroad and other states

  • Missions and humanitarian aid to regions of the former Soviet Union
